gone gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond, O what an awakening, all hail!

(jiēdì, jiēdì, bōluó jiēdì, bōluósēng jiēdì, pútí suōpóhē / 

gate gate pāragate pārasaṃgate bodhi svāhā)

The above is a mantra, i.e., an esoteric teaching by means of which we are reminded of the subtlety and complexity of the inconceivable Dharma….Exoteric Teachings are accessible to rational understanding and can be explained, but the meanings of the esoteric or mystic forms of prayer such as dharmas and mantras are not within the reach of the intellect; the good is upheld and cannot be lost and evil cannot arise. {x}

“O Sariputra! Form does not differ from the void, and the void does not differ from the form. Form is the void, and the void is form. The same is true for feelings, conceptions, impulses and consciousness.” {x}

The Heart Sutra, possibly the best known text of Mahayana Buddhism, is said to be the pure distillation of wisdom (prajna)…[and] part of the much larger Prajnaparamita (perfection of wisdom) Sutra, which is a collection of about 40 sutras composed between 100 BCE and 500 CE…the earliest record of the sutra is a Chinese translation from Sanskrit by the monk Chih-ch’ien made between 200 and 250 CE. {x}

Ǎn mání bāmī hōng / ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པ་དྨེ་ཧཱུྃ / om mani padme hum

“Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra (prayer), Om Mani Padme Hum, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. Viewing the written form of the mantra is said to have the same effect — it is often carved into stones, like the one pictured above, and placed where people can see them.

It is said that all the teachings of the Buddha are contained in this mantra: Om Mani Padme Hum cannot be really translated into a simple phrase or sentence.”
